Context: The idea of current project of using visual arts to create intercultural dialogue was born during dissemination event organized by participants of the project on graphical facilitation in local youth centre. We showed several techniques of drawing as a mean to facilitate learning process as well as implemented one of the activities of YE – river of life. We have noticed overall involvement in the activity which required no words just drawing. Then the idea of using this to build intercultural dialogue in our divided community popped in our heads. We contacted our friends from other countries (most of them we met during other YE) and pitched the idea, discussed common needs and the result we are seeking for with this project. After several skype conferences collaboration was made of young people from 4 countries: LT, SK, RO, EE. Application form was prepared by 8 participants (2/country) with the help of youth workers from each NGO. All participating countries face similar problem of intolerance, social exclusion, prejudice or judgemental approach towards people of different culture, country, religion, ethnicity, sex orientation, etc. in their communities. Reasons behind this are various: -very little interaction with people of different ethnicity/religion/country (fear of them), difficult financial situation stopping from travelling which translates into low level of intercultural awareness and understanding -low level of knowledge on how to start communicating with “that people”, start and foster intercultural dialogue with them through different non-formal methods (like visual arts) -judgemental instant approach to different people due to stereotypes vivid in their enclosed communities, historical reasons (e.g. history of Lithuania and Russia) We see clear potential how this project could benefit us and our communities: -Lithuanian participants come from Kaunas and villages around it. This city has a mix of minorities: Russians, Polish people, Jews community, immigrants from Ukraine who come to Lithuania to work. Equipping more young people with competences how to raise social inclusion, how to start and keep a contact with people from minorities, involve them in NGOs and community’s activities could significantly contribute to helping to integrate minorities, increase social inclusion, unite community and young people. -Participants from Slovakia live in a town with Czech and Hungarian minorities. Even though, minorities are not very big, it is still quite often for Slovaks and these minorities to meet. Young people of different ethnicities meet in school, leisure time clubs (e.g. local basketball team). Young people equipped with competences how to raise social inclusion could contribute to full integration of these minorities into communities life. -Participants from Romania come from a town where they are minority because 81.39% are ethnic Hungarians. These participants themselves could benefit significantly from this project how to integrate into community where they are considered as minority, how to raise social inclusion, start intercultural dialogue through arts. -Participants from Estonia live in Tallinn where the biggest minority is Russians. Unfortunately, more than half of them are not integrated or very little integrated into community. This project could help to start dialogue and make connection with enclosed Russian communities in Tallinn, involve them in communities life, help young people of Russian ethnicity, who have trouble to communicate in Estonian, to interact with locals with the help of visual arts. This being said, our goal is to increase social inclusion in 4 communities and further by equipping 56 participants from 4 countries with competences for building intercultural dialogue through visual arts. Objectives O1. To raise awareness in 4 communities about intercultural problems and influence attitudes of 56 participants to the positive side towards people of different culture, country, ethnicity and religion by the end of the project. O2. To increase competences of 56 participants from 4 countries in creating visual art as a powerful tool for building intercultural dialogue and fostering social inclusion until the end of the project. O3. To broaden outlook of 56 participants by fostering their values of freedom, tolerance, respect for others and sense of belonging to their communities and Europe.
