Encouraged by the successful realization of 'Spread the word, sing with us (part 1 and 2)' youth exchange projects and motivated by the eagerness of the participants and our local volunteers to carry on with the idea of music as a tool for self-expression, we decided to bring to life a third sequel of this project. The objective of this project is to encourage young people to use music as a tool to express themselves and their ideas. We will reach these objectives through series of non-formal based activities. The activities will take participants back in time and allow them to grasp how music developed through the years and peek into the influence of music within our daily lives. Then, they will craft their own instruments and take part in an international jamming session. The crafted instruments will allow all participants to be able to take part in the jamming and perform with the others for the rest of the project regardless if they have any prior musical skills. Divided into international groups, the participants will explore the concept of a cover song, after which they will prepare, rehearse and perform some of the timeless classics in their own style. International bands will be formed according to interest (musical genre, topics willing to address) and the participants will write down their own lyrics and melody and put them together into a song. The author songs of participants will address current European issues viewed through their eyes. After a lot of rehearsing, the bands will do a public performance followed by a jamming session of an open character. In the end, on the 21 June the young people will hit the streets of Luxembourg and do a series of street performing to celebrate 'Fête de la musique' together with local musician and music enthusiasts. Which are the needs and issues that we want to tackle with this project? Young people feel the urge to share their thoughts and feelings, for their voice to be heard in order to initiate and see the changes that they want to see within their private lives, their neighborhood, local community and the European Union as a whole. Music is a universal tool that does not know any limits. Anyone can practice music, regardless of age, gender, religion, cultural and economic background and status in society. It is what makes it such an amazing tool for youth work and the reason why we at 'ReAct' work on building a path to further explore the potential of music as s tool in youth work.
