Background

Many small and medium companies in Europe face two key challenges in the recent years: finding employees with the needed qualifications and a high level of motivation and commitment, as well as retaining the most talented staff members. It is getting more and more obvious that providing a high salary is not enough: modern workers want to be able to grow personally and professionally when at work. That is why adequate human resources strategies and procedures are getting exceedingly important, and adult education may become one of the main tools to ensure human resources development and retention. Smart-specialized SMEs, in turn, are of vital importance since they contribute greatly to the economic development and competetiveness of the region where they reside. To be able to do so, they need innovative and flexible tools in order to develop a consistent HR development strategy and take relevant measures. The PULSE project provided SSO SMEs with such tools.
