Objectives

Technical drawing is an integrated part from the curriculum in our school, because our students are educated in technical science, in mechanical and textile profession. Technical drawing is important because it is a language which engineers, designers, and technicians can use to understand the production/ manufacturing/ building of a system or an object. Technical drawing is an essential part of technical documentation. Not so long ago, all technical drawings were created manually, but manual drawing required a lot of time and effort. CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software and SolidWorks appeared to make this process easier. With using powerful and easy-to-use software, it is possible to create sophisticated part and assembly designs quickly and efficiently. By implementing the project, we want to enable to our students to gain new knowledge and skills for drawing and editing digital 2D and 3D designs more quickly and easily than they could by hand. By implementing the project, we want to enable to our students to: - apply the stages of the design process from scratch using engineering graphics techniques such as sectional projections, dimensioning and computer generated drawings (2D and 3D) - apply principles of technical drawings to create different 3D models - apply drafting standards to different type of projects - demonstrate problem-solving skills to master the creation of drawings and assemblies. - construct solid models, assemblies, and detail drawings using a feature-based parametric design CAD program, such as SolidWorks - solve design problems in parts and assemblies at the basic level - apply dimensioning and tolerance techniques in order to complete technical drawings - analyze and apply the latest standards, symbols and rules for dimensioning - create a part from a drawing, with linked dimensions and equations to aid in modeling Regarding to the teachers, who have participated in the project had a task named “job shadowing”. By implementing the project, we want to enable to our teachers to learn new teaching methods and techniques in working with deaf students by applying new technologies, to improve their professional competence through the exchange of experiences with their colleagues from the partner school, to increase collaboration with colleagues from other countries, to improve the knowledge and skills of teachers, increase the motivation and interest in students’ learning and raise the quality and reputation of the school. As a result, the entire school will be more focused and effective.

Background

"Partenija Zografski" is a vocational high school for deaf students. The main activities of our school are education, rehabilitation, professional and vocational training of deaf students from R. of Macedonia. As a result of the received World Bank grant, in our school was established a real school company in order to produce machine parts. From the received grant, our school purchased central numerical control (CNC) lathe. The basis for the work of the CNC lathe is the preparation of a technical sketch where the program for the machine is prepared. The basic programs used to draw machine parts are AutoCAD and SolidWorks. AutoCAD is mostly used for 2D drawings. SolidWorks is usually used for design and modelling of a 3D solid part. Over 2 million designers and engineers worldwide use AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS to bring designs to life-from the coolest gadgets to innovations. In order for the real school company to successfully start working, we have felled the need to increase the professional knowledge and skills and ICT skills on our students, hence the idea for this kind of training for our students. Because Partenija Zografski is the only high school for students with impaired hearing in North Macedonia, the teachers do not have the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from the schools in our country and to apply different methodologies for teaching and learning deaf students. On the other hand, one of the priorities of our school is the professional development of teachers. Professional development of teachers is a planned and continuous process, which stimulates the development of teachers and matches the needs of our Center. Our vision is the teachers to learn from the most successful educational systems and compare the differences and similarities with our teaching methods and curriculum. The teachers who participated in the project had a task named “job shadowing”. Teachers have learned new methods and techniques in working with deaf students by applying new technologies. They improved professional competence through the exchange of experiences with their colleagues from the partner school, improved their language competences.
