The main objectives were: 1. To acquire in-depth understanding of the reasons behind challenging behaviours and how to react when challenging behaviours occur. Also, to become aware of routine preventive measures and strategies that allow individuals with learning difficulties to function at their best. 2. To become aware of the common issues surrounding puberty, sexuality and ASD. To acquire training on how to device a structured programme that can be implemented alongside our school scheme of work and gain knowledge on how to help students develop a foundational knowledge and understanding which is usually missed out due to their poor self-awareness and relationship skills.
We had already had a very fruitful experience with another project on Autism. We applied for this project with the aim reinforcing our success in the first Erasmus+ project hence becoming a centre of reference and guidance for professionals, families and individuals with ASD. We felt that educational staff and management needed further training to be able to fulfil this role in a professional manner. We needed guidance on how to properly handle a tantrum presented by physically strong students. We also needed to acquire skills on how to guide adolescents with ASD to cope with their sexual feelings.
