The MITA staff would benefit from seeing the business perspectives of the organisations hosting them. Job shadowing is an excellent opportunity to foster openness and creativity at the workplace. The experience of travelling to the host organisation is conducive to helping each employee grow professionally. The objectives of this project are: - To further develop and strengthen the skills and competences of the MITA staff; - To strengthen their technical knowledge particularly in Emerging technologies; - Sharing of best practices with partners; - Learn from organisations that are already implementing the emerging technologies in their systems and applications; - Have a fresh perspective on how to design systems and applications; - Have a fresh perspective on how to run the lab activities; - Generate solutions to stumbling blocks identified along the way; - To challenge assumptions and run things in different ways; - To take on board and apply the lessons learnt by the hosting organisation to future endeavours in the participants’ organisation; - Engage in discussions with foreign institutions to understand how issues encountered are tackled and solved.
MITA is the central driver of Government’s ICT policy, programmes and initiatives in Malta. MITA aims to be at the forefront of the use of emerging technologies in Government systems and applications in the relative business fields (e.g. health, customs, etc). The Agency identified key needs in relation to: - Staff working in the Emerging Technology Lab; - Technical staff working on the various Government business systems; - Staff working at the MITA Innovation Hub. The key need of the organisation is to have: 1. More employees who know how to integrate the emerging technology in their respective business area and in the delivery of services to Government entities and to citizens; 2. Understand how to run an Emerging Technologies Lab and the related operations, and subsequently continue building at a local level; 3. Understand which activities and initiatives can be launched to attract more people to work in the Emerging Technologies Lab; Training through mobility enables the employees to be more in-sync with the organisations’ goals. Job shadowing provides a richer experience than classroom training or desk research as it inspires participants to improve their competences.
