Project summary

The project Inclusive Museums is the direct result of the contact seminar "European Cultural Heritage in Adult EDucation" on 14th untill 17th November 2018 in Santiago de Compostela, Spail. The representatives of the five partners found each other in the course of the seminar on the aims and targetgroups and are now the partners in this project. The main aims of the project Inclusive Museums are: 1. creating opportunities for volunteers with a distance to the labour market to develop themselves by doing valuable work for museums in cultural heritage and education. 2. strenghtening the position of museums and other cultural institutions as responsible, social and sustainable organisations in our society. The project will be caried out by the partnership of very involved people in relevant organisations; three museums in Poland, Finland and The Netherlands, a cultural research and education organisation in Belgium and a centre for adult education in Spain. They all bring their relevant local, regional and national networks. Although there are some partners with experience (or with persons with experience), the project is a first international project for most of the partners. That is also why we have chosen to apply for a KA II project Exchange of Practices, and later discuss the possibilities of strategic partnerships in innovation. With the partners we can realise a strong project, with accurate division of tasks like the focus on specific targetgroups, specific organizational aspects and the dissemination of the results of the project. The dissemination will be realised via the various networks the partners are all part of. This includes international platforms, like EPALE. The desired impact of the project is the creation of more and better opportunities for those who are on the edge of society with less chances in fullfillment, work in cultural heritage and adult education, happiness. Furthermore museums and other cultural institutions are known for the social, sustainable way of organising their organisations which will increase their financial resources and the number of visitors from specific target groups. The result of the project will be a document (in various media) which describes the repertoire of ways to involve the people from the target groups (seniors, women, deaf people etc), how to educate, how to guide, how to reward them etc. This "greenbook" will be disseminated in all the networks.

Objectives

We wanted to achieve that the partners shared good practices and experiences with volunteers and use this practices in our own organisations.

Background

Representatives of the 5 partners met for the first time in Santiago de Compostella in a contact seminar. During the seminar we developed the idea of this project, adressing the needs of volunteers involved in museumwork ánd the needs of museums to be accesible for people with a distance to the labour market.
