Project summary

20 students from each country (from 2nd and 3rd grade: 13-14 years old) would participate in a European project Erasmus Plus KA2 related to nutrition and healthy lifestyle over a period of two years. During the project they would cooperate online (using the e-Twinning platform) as well as via 4 short-term exchange visits (2 per academic year). we should specify here whether the group of students participating in the project would be the same throughout the two years or there will be two different groups) There would be different areas involved in the project: Physical education, Science, Maths and English (as this would be the communication language). In the first phase, students would mostly keep record of their eating habits as well as the amount of physical activity they do on a daily basis. They would compare and interpret the data of their respective mates from the other country. At the same time they would investigate on topics related to nutrition, eating disorders, physical activity etc via short-term projects which would enhance the use of ICT (padlets, flipped classroom, infographics etc). In the second part of the project, students would share their typical national recipes and students from the other country would prepare the meal and analyze it to see its nutritive value. They will also send each other parcels with typical food from their area, students will have to do “blind tasting” and then analyze the product and its nutritive value. Students will also elaborate a personal vlog, where they will record their culinary experiences and their physical activities. In the third and final phase of the project, students should be able to suggest each other how to improve their habits related to nutrition and physical activity and elaborate a culinary book and weekly planner of physical activity. Throughout the project students will also tackle issues related to environmental problems and discuss the problems of unnecessary packagings, recycling or imported food as opposed to the use of local seasonal product. The two centres will organize different events where the whole educational community gets involved, like sports days and international cooking days. During the 7-day exchanges, students will try to live the routine of their mates and compare how this change of diet and lifestyle affects them (they will be able to monitor this process thanks to the “watches” given by the universities). They will also participate in different activities including a conference on nutrition and healthy lifestyle where they will introduce the results of their investigation and will try to discuss other important issues with an expert guest.

Final report summary

Our project has been affected by the COVID 19 pandemic. During the first year only one of the planned activities could take place as described in the application. Mallorcan students visited the Montessori college and worked on activities related to health, nutrition and sustainability. Two months later the lockdown started and we could carry on only via virtual activities. Several online meetings were organized where all the students and teachers participated, students also exchanged emails and worked on joint virtual projects related especially to their diets and fitness. To give few examples, students exchanged recipes and cooked their respective meals, they also created short videos where they showed their physical exercises they were doing during the lockdown. A big online event was also organized by the Spanish school during the first year which involved not only the participating organizations but also other people from Spain and Holland interested in healthy lifestyle and sport. The event was called "Salutis para tutis"(which would translate as “Health for everybody”) and it was a charity event at the same time, raising money for Rare diseases NGO. During 2020-2021 no in situ exchanges could take place so students continued with virtual activities similar to the ones described above. Fortunately, the duration of the project could be extended until June 2022. During the third year of the project we could finally continue with traditional exchanges of students and we were able to organize the 3 activities that were originally planned. In April 2022 20 Spanish students visited the Montessori College and completed a programme which involved sport activities (EU fittest, PE lessons), tasks related to nutrition (preparation of a healthy meal using seasonal and local products with the exchange partner) and sustainability (in Amsterdam students participated in canal clean-up with Plastic Whale NGO, at school they learned about the “Plastic Soup” and the environmental issues caused by microplastic). In June a group of 40 Dutch students travelled to Mallorca and participated in a programme which included a campsite sleepover with activities related to sport and environment or elaboration of healthy dishes at the local school. Two activities that should be highlighted were the “Sustainable hackathon” (with the help of Cleanboating Mallorca Organization, students participated in a challenge in which they had to come up with solution to the problems of ocean pollution, using nutrition and physical activities as a basis.) and “Salutis para Tutis” (students participated in another solidary event, this time raising money for Multiple Sclerosis NGO. The Spanish institution organized a day full of sport activities in the streets of Felanitx open to all public. At the end of the project students gained awarness related to their nutrition, physical activity and sustainable world. A lot of peer learning took place during the project which was one of our main objectives: exchange positive habits and knowledge to improve students' lifestyle.
