Objectives

With help from Erasmus+, Stichting Lifebook for Youth was eager to organize the seminar "Biography work; if we know where we came from we better know where to go! 2019 - 2020" in which cooperation partners from the Netherlands, Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia and Bulgaria could participate. Program 1 "Youth Exchange 2019" In the summer of 2019, we organized a program for young people from the Netherlands, Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia and Bulgaria. Per country 5 young people (total 25 young people) were invited and 2 supervisors. This exchange week lasted 6 days. The young people are young people who are (often long-term) dependent on youth aid in their country. The purpose of the youth exchange was to exchange experiences about their life (history) and family backgrounds; Who am I? What am I good at? Where do I want to go? What are my qualities? What are my plans for the future? This involved working with the Lifebook where we focus on the positive events and other unique aspects from their past and present. Through the international exchange and by working with the Lifebook, the young people experience a different perspective and expanded view of their life story. This boosts their self-confidence and self-esteem, and they become more aware of their specific character traits and qualities. At the end of the week we evaluated with the young people; what is the added value of working with Lifebook, the mutual exchange, in what way does this contribute to more awareness of their specific character traits, qualities and self-esteem. The results of the evaluation and the tips and ideas were put together. Afterwards, young people 1. Expanded their field of vision by experiencing other points of view about their own lives and history. 2. Experienced that they can learn from other youth and they themselves are role models for others. 3. That they can give voice and direction to their future. 4. Met young people from other cultures and learned to communicate and exchange experiences in a language other than their mother tongue. 5. Experienced that they have influence on Lifebook and made a contribution to adjust and improve Lifebook where necessary and thought about the way Lifebook coaches structurally ask children and young people who work with Lifebook for their opinion about Lifebook and prepared a presentation/film about it for the seminar in spring 2020. Unfortunately, part 2, a seminar for youth workers, could not take place due to corona conditions. We will submit a new application for this.
