Objectives

The main objectives of the project were: 1. to motivate the students to complete their vocational education and training with improved results 2. to increase the number of certificates of apprenticeship 3. to increase the attractiveness of vocational studies 4. to increase the number of applicants to our school. We were hoping that the project would help the students to understand the value of their subjects and help them in their search for their longterm apprenticeship. Our investment in international experience has been received as positive among the service, commerse and tourism industry in our region. The participation in this mobility project gives our students an advantage when they apply for apprenticeship.

Background

Ålesund Videregående skole (Aalesund Upper Secondary School) has a long tradition of educational entrepreneurship and internationalization. With entrepreneurship we mean: 1) The student takes an active role in its own learning situation 2) The student can work with real assignments and problems 3) The learning situations take place in real working environments. With Internationalization we mean: To be able to communicate, interact and participate in different situations, despite cultural or linguistic differences. These are important skills in the future. The mobility project is in line with the strategy of the school, and the need of international experiences and knowledge of foreign languages when working within sales, services and tourism.
