Girls rock camp is a music and arts based camp concept where girls, trans, and gender non-conforming youth learn an instrument, form a band, write a song, and perform at a live music venue. Our objective with the Girls Rock Youth Worker exchange is for youth workers to develop and share methods and tools used in these projects all over Europe. The main goal for the Girls Rock Youth Worker Exchange is to increase the quality and consciousness of each local and national girls rock project in Europe, by offering trainings, as well as exchange of knowledge, ideas and experiences. This will in turn lead to national and local projects that are better able to implement our common goals of a higher degree of youth leadership, diversity and international solidarity. A secondary goal on the organisational level is to consolidate the movement and make it better able to carry out international projects. As per the renewed framework for European co-operation in the youth field, the Girls Rock Youth Worker Exchange will contribute to promoting the active citizenship, social inclusion and solidarity of all young people - both participating youth workers and the indirect target group of rock camp participants, their friends, family and community. The seminar will engage youth workers to discover their potential for understanding and shaping the environment around them, and give them valuable tools to this end. The Girls Rock Youth Worker Exchange contributes towards creating more and equal opportunities for all young people in education and in the labour market, as it aims to make participating youth workers better equipped to train young people in specific skills such as storytelling through film and social media, instrument playing and band formation, non-hierarchical organising and leadership, and as such support the youth in their communities in acquiring “soft” skills. The Girls Rock Youth Worker Exchange promotes diversity and intercultural dialogue, common values of freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights. Taking an intersectional, anti discriminating approach to empowerment through music, the seminar promotes gender equality and combats discrimination.
