Objectives

According to the name of the project 'Fair Assessment in European School', we wanted to analyse and implement in our school the manners and methods of assessment that will be most beneficial for the student. We believe that formative assessment (OK) is something like that. Before and during the project, our school participated in the 'Learning School' program organized by the Center for Civic Education (CEO), supporting the OK process. However, the resources given to us were not enough to understand how other schools (especially international ones) introduce OK, what methods they use, and how they approach formative assessment. We also wanted to be able to observe the methods of working with students with learning disabilities and those gifted in other countries. Despite the active therapeutic and pedagogical team in our School, we decided that we would like to expand our workshop by additional competences. We wanted to be sure that the methods of assessing the above-mentioned students are not only 'ours' but also belong to the European way of providing feedback, grading or NOT grading but, instead, providing our students with descriptive assessment, which is so important in OK.

Background

The project aimed at mobilizing our school to the implementation of Assessment for Learning (OK in Polish, thus its name 'WeROK)) in grades 1-8 and in the kindergarten section of our school. All activities were focused on strengthening competences in teaching OK and working with children with special educational needs (those with difficulties, such as the gifted ones). As part of the activities undertaken by the school, we established contacts with teachers and trainers from other countries, we had the opportunity to participate in a training devoted to working with children with special needs, we got to know innovative curricula with elements of OK in Portugal and the effects of implementing this methodology in France. We applied for the funds offered by the Erasmus + program because we believed that observation, training and teaching in Western European countries would allow us to gain insight into something else, prevent routine and improve the workshop of our teachers and management staff. We also wanted to provide our school with the best practices in terms of assessing our kids. This tasks guided us during mobilities.
