Objectives

By implementing the project, our main goal was to acquire such key competences that would allow us to support our students in different activities, equalize their educational opportunities, develop their interests and creative thinking, and prepare them for life in the local, national and global community. Thanks to the courses, the participants of the project gained knowledge and had the opportunity to develop the skills of communicating in a foreign language, use modern technologies and implement innovative teaching methods in classes. In addition, the courses were held in other European countries, which contributed to the development of soft skills, i.e. social and civic competences, as well as the increase in intercultural awareness of each participant. These are additional competences that we could pass on to our students and thus prepare them for life in a multicultural European society. At the same time, throughout the project, we wanted the experience to be used not only by individual teachers participating in a given course, but also for this knowledge to be passed on to students and other teachers.

Background

When applying for this project, we wanted to initiate activities in our school that would contribute to the personal development of students and teachers, and as a result, would be beneficial for both the school community and the local environment. We noticed that the school is not only a place where subject content is taught, but above all a place where young people learn to live in society, solve problems, learn critical thinking and act for the good of the community. An important element of teaching is its informal dimension, going outside the classroom and by diversifying extracurricular activities, we wanted to give students a wider opportunity to develop skills and interpersonal competences, and thus activate them to take action. Our observations showed that students willingly engage in projects related to art, theater and dance, and that they would like to learn about the culture and traditions of other European countries. Therefore, in order to achieve this goal, we decided that the best form of acquiring knowledge and deepening cultural awareness would be for teachers to take part in methodology and language courses abroad and to observe the work of partner schools during job shadowing mobilities.
