Objectives

The aim of the project was to make another step in enhancement of the school’s internationalization strategy. It aspired to enrich and widen the offer of international trainings and exchanges offered by the school. In such a way the institution would become an attractive school for the graduates of junior high school and primary school. The main goal of the project was to allow students to take part in valuable international trainings which would become much bigger challenge for our students. It was our wish that the opportunity to take part in the trainings motivated students to learn and present the right attitude towards their academic duties. We wanted it to become a special prize for the most aspiring students of the school. Taking into account the fact that a big portion of our students come from low-income households offering limited opportunities to students, the Portuguese training program was designed also to strengthen their self-esteem, entrepreneurship make them more open and less xenophobic. One of the aim of the project was to decrease anti-EU feelings at school. It was the impulse to learn about other cultures while working on one’s language skills.

Background

Participation in the Erasmus+ project was a continuation of the project from Action 1 Mobility for pupils and staff in school education. 11 teachers took part in language trainings in several European countries. This project became an impulse for changes in the school. The school had been an institution that had struggled with many problems. One of these changes was the school's internationalization initiative. Before the first Erasmus project the school had been involved in independent projects financed by parents and sponsors. We decided that vocational training for students based on Action 2 projects should become the most important part of the international activity of the school. The person initiating the project was a participant in an English teaching methodology training in Malta. He proposed to face this challenge inspired by conversations with teachers from other countries who had already undertaken such projects The assumption of the project was to achieve many goals. These were, first of all, improving the quality of education, increasing the attractiveness of the school on the educational market, increasing students' faith in their skills, reducing xenophobic tendencies and increasing language skills.
