Objectives

Erasmus+ project “Youth work PROmotion in social MEdia” (PROME) is created by CREATOR team for youth workers who seek to learn how to promote youth work in social media and incorporate critical thinking skills into their daily work. This project is for organisations working within eight EU Programme countries, and aims at examining the role and impact of social media in creating positive and negative roles and stereotypical images. The project will help youth workers to exercise critical thinking and creative writing with the aim to educate youth in media techniques. In line with the objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme it instills youth workers with capacities to act as multipliers and be able to tailor and make accessible different activities to young people and particularly to youth with fewer opportunities - minorities, people with limited formal education and people at risk of being socially marginalized. The objectives of this project are: • to explore the phenomenon of social media and its role in our life; • to instill skills to use different tools for social media content analysis; • to develop competences in creative writing and creation positive images; • to discuss how to work on media topics with youth with fewer opportunities; • to advance non-formal education and cooperation in the field of youth work with EU Programme countries. The social media today plays a significant role in forging stereotypes and prejudices in the society by conditioning perceptions and shaping people’s attitudes and behaviors. Today, people connected to social media become a source of news and can create "trending topics". Therefore it is important that youth workers as well as young people exercise critical thinking towards what they receive and before they spread the information. Facebook receives 43.6% of browser visits to social media in the 28 EU Member States plus Norway and Iceland; YouTube receives 28.6%. Other leading providers are Twitter (4.3%) and Instagram (2.5%). Together, they account for 80% of the total. (Source: https://ec.europa.eu/info/publications/behavioural-study-advertising-and-marketing-practices-social-media-0_en ). The project includes a preparatory stage, training course, dissemination and follow-up activities. The training course will bring together 32 participants from Poland, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and Portugal. It will be implemented in Rzeszow, Poland, between 9-18 August 2019. Participants of this project will have an opportunity to discuss present situation in world and local social media. The list of activities of the training course includes teambuilding activities, theoretical presentations, workshops about social media, analysis of case studies, activities about youth work, discussions, meeting with local young people, presentations of Youthpass and Erasmus+ Programme, creating of own samples of social media, dissemination plan and follow-up activities. The methodology of the training course is based on the principles of non-formal education. Participants will work individually, in peers, in small groups and all together. There will be facilitated and self-facilitated discussions, reflections and constructive feedbacks. The main focus will be placed on fostering active participation, learning by doing, mutual learning, discussing and sharing of experience and good practices. As a result, participants of the training course will acquire new competences that lead towards a critical understanding of information accessed via social media and how to interact with it and create own content with the aim to promote youth work. They will increase quality in the preparation, implementation, and follow up activities for youth and particularly young people with fewer opportunities by promoting the non-formal education and building the capacity and quality work in youth organisations what is relevant to Erasmus+ Programme objectives. This project will address the needs of all partners via Erasmus+ Programme as a key-factor through cooperation with European partners. Project will support professional development of youth workers in the fields of social media and youth work. It will have impact on personal development of participants by improving their Youthpass eight key competences. It will support capacity building of partners’ organisations. The potential long term benefits are that participants will be able to work effectively in their organisations and raise awareness about social media and youth work in wider audience in their countries, in Europe and in the world.
