Objectives

By implementing this project we want to change the way youth workers and other stakeholders perceive youth leadership and activism. For now the often prevailing misconception is that young people need constant guidance and as a consequence we see many projects that are not based on young people's real needs but rather on the idea of those needs that adults have. We believe that young peoples are experts on their own lives and should be able to be the changemakers who's voices are heard and appreciated. By equipping youth workers with practical methodology of participatory photography we want to reach young people in the communities where our partners organizations are based, raise their self-confidence and convince them that it is possible to use very simple digital tools to convey their messages and bring a real social change. The specific objectives of this project are envisaged as follows: - exploring new ways of promoting youth activism - lack of understanding among youth workers as for how participatory media can serve communities and individuals - misconception regarding empowerment - it's often seen as something that needs to be don by the NGOs who do not consider that young people are the ones who knows their needs best and are able to be the change makers The specific objectives of this training course are envisaged as follows: To equip participants with both theoretical understanding and practical skills related to the concept of participatory photography and the benefits of using it to promote youth activism and participation To promote social involvement and decision making of young people with fewer opportunities (especially those living in deprived areas) To enhance participants ICT skills and encourage them to use technologies in their daily work with youngsters To teach youth workers the ways of assessing and addressing the community needs To build a network of like minded organizations and individuals ready to work on common projects on promoting social inclusion
