Objectives

The project „Unity in diversity – Medially, culinary, european” initiated by the participants of the Environmental Detachment(OHP) and developed with Lithuanian school youth from the city of Alytus is about the examination of the European culinary inheritance by learning about its major components: Polish and Lithuanian culinary culture and the culinary canons of both nations. This need originated from the question: How young people living in Europe should nourish to eliminate the so called „trash food” which permanently appeared in Europe with the help of such companies as McDonalds or KFC. Although young people consider fast food meals as tasty and often find them hard to resist, the project participants that are interested in cooking are aware that long term consumption of these meals can cause irreperable damage to the body or at least does not help in their correct development. This argument is omnipresent that is why we decided to track all of its aspects. We will look for the answer: How to find a good nutrition alternative so that the meals are not only tasty, but also healthy, easy and quick to make and cheap. We will learn how to move in a maze of culinary issues, we will get to know the kitchen "from the kitchen", starting from the selection of good products, through the process of their storage, preparation of dishes, the way they are served and consumed. The aim of the project is to promote the idea of healthy eating and changing bad eating habits in young people, but also to learn about the complex world of gastronomy in order to make the right choice. Learning the elements of the European gastronomic heritage during the Polish-Lithuanian medial and culinary workshops carried out in Namysłów from 24/06 5/7/2017. will allow to gain and raise numerous competences of young people, including in the field of European culinary art by learning from each other and from specialists. The project activities will allow for the development of passion, in this area, which in the future may turn into a profession sought after on the modern labor market in Europe. Currently, specialists in the field of dietetics are sought, people for positions related to a healthy lifestyle, diet, nutrition and changing eating habits (eg a food policy specialist, educator and nutrition and meals advisor for youth, the elderly and others social groups). For centuries, national cuisines have been influenced by the cuisines of national countries, whether it means that there are no typical Polish dishes and typical Lithuanian dishes. We want to find out thanks to the project's activities. Are national cuisines are hermetically sealed, or are they absorbing novelties from the world, and if so, how. We intend to learn traditional Polish and Lithuanian dishes, as well as other European and non-European countries. We will answer the question: does it always mean healthily? We want to decipher the culinary culture of both countries and its components: what to eat (type of dishes), where to eat (space - house, restaurant, fast-food bar, how to eat (rules of savoir vivr-table decoration, interior design, lighting, atmosphere), with who to eat (family members, friends, work acquaintances etc.) We will learn how to choose products, how to prepare good dishes, how to serve them and how to eat them. And the last important element of the project is the answer to the question whether or not the culinary connects or divide nations? And what is the function of the table covered with various dishes, coming from different countries, with representatives of different nations and various social groups. Can there be unity in diversity and what is it about? By examining tradition and the present day, we will use active methods through on-site and outdoor workshops and on-the-job not only gastronomy (techniques of cooking and tasting), but above all broadly defined media: film making, culinary photography, space arrangement for a film, scenery design and using modern IT techniques. During the project there will also be many intercultural, integrational and sport-recreational activities (business card, stereotypes, language animations, field games, energizers, pool trips, football / volleyball / basketball games, table football / billiards, disco, joint bonfire, singing, dancing, national evenings), which will certainly allow to get to know both groups better and integrate, and will give the driving force to joint activities and the implementation of the main theme. The project, which runs from May 1 to August 31, 2019, will enable versatile development, touches various aspects of gastronomy and the media, which proves that everyone can find something interesting in this area and learn new things. One of the important elements of the project is the acquisition of key skills that will be recognized by the Youthpass certificate.
