Objectives

The aim of the Youth Media Forum project was to develop a critical understanding of media messages in order to recognize their actual content. Together with young people from Russia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Slovenia, Italy and Lithuania, we wanted to reflect on the role of fake news and how to verify it, talk about the role of media in each of our countries, their role in shaping the attitudes of tolerance / openness, as well as about the role of each of us in online media. We wanted to explore the subject of the way of presentation and influence of media on minority groups on the situation of people belonging to these groups. We have decided to include young people from the EU partner countries in the exchange and organise it in Russia, because it was an important goal for us to get to know young people from outside the European Union and showed that Erasmus + is also a program for them. The Youth Media Forum project was planned to be an international youth exchange which placed in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. It should be attended by 32 people aged 18-30 and 11 leaders from 8 countries – 4 EU countries and 4 partner countries. Leaders alrady have experience in work with young people, most of them already implemented projects, including international. We will be supported by 3 facilitators who, in addition to the facilitation of youth exchange, will help us with organizational and financial matters. Participants were planned to be young people interested in the media and their impact on shaping public opinion, especially in the field of anti-discrimination and minority groups. These are people who care about developing communication and civic skills as well as critical thinking which is one of the most sought-after skills nowaday. The project were contributed to the personal development of participants, gives space to learn about new cultures, to raise the competences in intercultural communication, to establish friendship or cooperation, which could be continue in the future. It will also strengthen cooperation with EU partner countries and we hope that in the future it will contribute to the increase in the number of activities carried out with them. Thanks to this, a dialogue on the base values of EU, ie human rights, diversity, tolerance and respect will be possible.
