Early school leaving is a complex, dynamic and multifaceted phenomenon. Young people drop out of school early for a variety of reasons, which are very specific to each individual. Some drop out because they have personal or family problems, others because of health or emotional difficulties; some young people feel dissatisfied with their schooling - for example, the curriculum and teaching methods may not be suited to their needs, they may have poor relationships with teachers or peers, they may be subject to youth pressure or there may be a negative school climate. Much of this school dropout comes from the low self-esteem of students along with poor results that lead to failure. Teachers don't always know how to handle the situation. This opening to the European space will be a way to open new horizons and the mind to new challenges and new ways of being in education. Better education means better school results and that is our objective: after the diagnosis, we are committed to providing teachers with new skills, better training, in order to improve school results and reduce early dropout.
The Agrupamento de Escolas de Anadia was committed to a process of opening up to Europe, wanting to learn and share European best practices. The school had several areas that needed to improve, namely the quality of success of some classes and still a high school dropout rate, despite being slightly below the National average of 12.6% (Pordata), but effectively still below the European targets, set by the European Commission, below 10%. We thought that it was possible to improve these results by training teachers abroad, allowing them to learn from colleagues in Europe through good practices, which should lead to an improvement in teachers' motivation, this improvement being obviously extrapolated to students. Having identified the problem, through the analysis of school results, in addition to a close contact with the commission for the protection of minors, which has data on school dropout and student profile, our objective was to learn in an agile way, to improve practices, aiming to improve results.
