Objectives

Contributing to a more inclusive school, creating conditions so that the students with less opportunities and with special health needs can conclude their compulsory education, in a perspective of equity promotion and social cohesion. Increasing the success of the students in vocational courses, improving the completion rate and reducing early school leaving. Increasing the students’ interest and motivation in their schooling path, improving the certification levels of the young population in our municipality. Recognising the importance of the European project, both in a personal and a professional perspective, conveying a more positive image of public schools and of vocational courses, in particular. Promoting values, such as active citizenship, autonomy, responsibility, cooperation, commitment and transparency, as well as behaviours which promote good insertion in the job market and an easy integration in different social groups. Facilitating employability and the fight against youth unemployment. Promoting the establishment of a contact network for good practice exchange and experience acquisition in intercultural and international context, through the exchange of new knowledge and new methodologies.

Background

The commitment of Escola Secundária de Gago Coutinho (ESGC) on European projects is part of a development strategy of its international dimension, which enhances the common development of the institutions and of all the people, teachers and staff, who work for the provision of an educational service of quality, and for the students, who benefit from that service. It is intended that the School, based on a culture of responsibility, develops an internationalization plan, which is sustainable and quality-based and which responds to the specific needs of its human resources and its students, as it is described in the school’s guiding documents: the Educational Project and the Strategical Action Plan.
