Objectives

PROBLEM AND MOTIVATION The problem, identified by the young people, that the implementation of this project intends to attend is related to the processes of social exclusion faced by young people who have fewer resources (economic, educational, social, etc.), at the outset, and, consequently, less opportunities. These young people have increased difficulties in their social inclusion due to preconceptions and preconceived stigmas prevailing in today’s society, and are constantly being confronted with segregation and discrimination attitudes. The intention to conceive this project arises from the perception by all the organizations of the partnership, of the sharing of common needs and objectives and of the urgency to fight for equal opportunities for young people, especially those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. The fact that the political measures taken to promote equality of opportunity and to combat prejudice have proved to be fragmented and ineffective is an extra motivating factor for the design and implementation of this project. NEEDS The common needs identified by all partners of the consortium were as follows: -Create mobility opportunities for young people with fewer opportunities; -Encourage the multicultural dialogue, reflection and debate on the problem of discrimination and social exclusion of young people; -Create conditions to allow young people to acquire the most urgent socio-educational competences for their personal development and consequent autonomy; -Promote awareness-raising actions for the problems faced by young people, in order to build a respectful, participatory and shared-values living environment, essential for establishing a sense of European identity; -Promote actions that help the political systems to become more effective in the fight against social exclusion. GOALS Based on the problem and needs identified, the following specific objectives for the project were outlined: -Increase the mobility opportunities for young people with fewer opportunities, in order to promote their active citizenship and participation in European democratic life, for example by adapting the activities planned for the project to their participation; -Develop personal and social skills that are essential for the social inclusion of young people, for example through their participation in activities based on the methodology of non-formal education (NFE), planned for this youth exchange; -Share cultures and intensify peer-learning in order to generate/reinforce values that are essential for social cohesion and for European identity, such as solidarity, diversity, preservation of the environment and multiculturalism, for example through the relationship between young people from different countries in the youth exchange; -Raise the awareness of the society to the issues of discrimination and social exclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, in order to mitigate the prejudice and the segregation attitudes that they face, for example, by holding promotion events of the project that make people aware of these problems; -Assist policy-makers in the modernization of methods to combat social exclusion of young people through, for example, the dissemination of project results.
