Objectives

By implementing this project we aimed to: 1. General objective: reduction to 2% of school dropout, during 4 years (two years of project, plus the next two years). This involves the annual monitoring of the rate of absenteeism and school dropout, the increase of passability during the 2 years of the project and in the next two years after the completion of the project. 2. Specific objectives: -Increasing the level of inclusion and cooperation between students. - Accepting students of different ethnicities or coming from different cultural backgrounds. - Reducing cases of violence, even those of unintentional violence (from play). - improving the results of national evaluations, by increasing the pass rate; - Inclusion of eighth grade graduates in a later form of education. In order to achieve these objectives, we considered it necessary for the teaching staff in the school to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to streamline the educational act by using modern, student-centered techniques and methods, to support the real needs of children.

Background

In 2019, "Alexandru Vlahuta" Secondary School, Iasi had a total of 650 students enrolled: 95 in kindergarten, 246 in primary school, 153 in high school and 156 in evening classes. Of these, at the level of full-time education, 13 were students with SEN, having a certificate in this regard, 18 were Rroma, 81 had at least one parent abroad. In the case of students attending evening classes, the situation was even more difficult, as they were in this form of education because either they were not educated at the right age due to unfavorable socio-economic conditions in their families or they were not able to to integrate and complete the day courses, for various reasons. These characteristics determined a certain specificity of the school, being necessary the improvement of the schooling competences and of those related to the norms of civilized behavior. This being the situation, the school had to find solutions to reduce absenteeism and school dropout. A viable solution seemed to us the improvement of the level of professional training of teachers and the exchange of good practices with teachers in schools facing similar situations.
