Objectives

The project aims were to: • Improve our educator’s capacity to review, consolidate and create new resources which will meet the needs of culturally diverse learners. • Improve our educator’s skills-base to collaborate with complex and multicultural groups to foster inclusion and diminish prejudice. • Increase movement building and community organizing – particularly for and with the most marginalized through building the capacity of more diverse groups and organisations and their educators. • Increase skills for personal and collective resilience and improve emploiability and staff retention in the sector. • Address the lack of education and support around safety and security from digital, physical and psychological threats – both for marginalized groups – and for those working on a transparency agenda. All of those originally set aims were achieved. Additionally CeRe became better networked internationally, our staff benefited from new international career development opportunities.

Background

CeRe’s goal is to help citizens, communities and other organizations. CeRe’s mission is to tackle the causes societal challenges by working with other organizations to firstly, provide and support the provision of non-formal education – particularly on active citizenship and community building. We applied for this project in order to improve access to relevant, high quality, inclusive education for those working on social issues. We also recognized that CeRe's staff, partners and trainees are struggling with the emotional, psychological and physical challenges of sustaining their education and advocacy work. The increase in popularity of the far-right in Europe and all the crises that we have faced recently result in increasing hostility for those doing active citizenship and participation work. Burnout is becoming more common for people working in our sector and it is hard for those working in organizations to stay resilient and move forward– particularly for those working with or from marginalized communities. Another reason for applying for this project was to increase the provision of resilience education by training a critical mass of trainers who can carry this work across the region.
