Objectives

The project “Challenge to change, Challenge to exchange - Alternative for a Healthy Inclusive Society”, implemented within 1.06.2019 - 31.01.2020 by Technical College „Edmond Nicolau” in partnership with Youth Association Wubira, from Olvera, Spain, was created as a sequel of the Youth Exchange „Rural Olympic” planned to take place in Spain, June-July 2019. The project is targeting young people (15-18 years old) with fewer opportunities (geographical and financial obstacles) who need to acquire some behaviour changes by gaining awareness with regard to the necessity of having a healthier lifestyle and of adapting their habits in order to become physically and mentally healthier and more responsible, recognizing and preventing the danger of certain diseases or disorders such as diabetes, bulimia, anorexia, obesity, heart disease, depression or anxiety. The project contains preparation activities, including the APV, 6-8 May 2019, the youth exchange in Lepsa, within 5-13.10.2019, follow-up and dissemination activities and, finally, writing the guide „Healthy Lifestyle for Everyone”. 40 Romanian and Spanish participants will meet in an open, nonformal space, 34 of whom are young people with fewer possibilities, 15-18 years old, and 6 group leaders. Together they will practise a healthy lifestyle in an inclusive way. Objectives of the project 1. Raising participants’ awareness regarding a healthy lifestyle based on diet, physical exercise, socialization, prevention of different forms of addiction through deterrence and spending quality time together 2. Prevention of social exclusion, obesity and sedentary life for the disadvantaged/ marginalized and financially weak young people, who live in the rural, poor areas and are at risk of school dropout 3. Developing inter/cultural, linguistic, social, digital, transversal competences of the participants 4. Building cultural exchange between two European cultures, raising awareness with regard to European identity, overcoming cultural prejudices, misconceptions and stereotypes according to UE principles : fighting racism, respect for dignity, diversity, equal opportunities, gender equality 5. Developing a spirit of tolerance, fighting discrimination practices, interest in cultural diversity, all of which being fundamentally necessary for living and working in a multicultural European space 6. Improving the partner organisations’ ability to approach inclusive practices through a transfer of innovation, nonformal methods and techniques between partners in order to provide quality educational services at European standards The implementation of the activities will lead to personal and professional development, active citizenship, internationalization of the partners through cooperation, European openness and exchange of good practices, and will establish synergies between school and civil society. By all the participants’ active involvement in all the project activities we intend to support social inclusion for the young people with fewer possibilities or with health problems, to develop the participants’ native qualities and key competences for a better integration into the labour market, to encourage active citizenship and sharing common European values, to promote equality of chances, tolerance, non discrimination and cultural dialogue so that the participants should become agents of change in their own community. We also rely on the exchange of good practices between the Romanian highschool and the Spanish youth association regarding the methods and techniques specific to nonformal education, in order to support the transfer of innovation in education and the increasing capacity of both partner organizations to implement Erasmus+ projects in the future. We expect that this project will lay the fondation for future institutional cooperation which will help us increase the number of youth involved in European learning mobilities. Last but not least we intend to provide the local community with a pattern of approaching Health Education in nonformal contexts as an alternative to formal education, both for schools and associations or ONG’s involved in activities related to a healthy lifestyle and to prevention of nutrition diseases amongst young people.
