As mentioned above we wanted to offer a modern and relevant vocational education By offering the possibilities to workplace training in another European country our main objective was to strengthen the students general and occupational competences in order to prepare them for a future in their chosen field in the labour market, both internationally and domestically. This project also aims for giving the students contacts abroad, through tutors, other students and host families. The close contacts with tutors will give the students references that strengthen their CV, but also gives them a social network that reaces beyond Sweden’s borders. Another objective for the project was to work according the national curriculum that states that school also should compensate for socioeconomical and cognitive disadvantages. A key component in this project was to offer all students possibilities to partake on equal terms. Finally, this projects strives to strengthen the students intercultural competences, by given the students possibilities to interact with people with other values, views and languages., in order to give the students competences and perspectives that will make them more attractive in the labour market and give them competences that will strengthen them as human beings.
Midsommarkransens gymnasium has been offering international projects for students for a long time. With this project we wanted to create a project for vocational students that strengthens their possibilities to work within their field both internationally and domestically, and also give them an international perspective on their future occupation. We also wanted to strengthen their confidence and intercultural competence. Another important factor for starting this project was that we wanted to offer the possibilities of partaking to all our students, even those of lesser means and eliminate certain socioeconomic obstacles. By offering students the possibilities to get work placements abroad we want to offer a relevant education that prepares the students for a future occupation, which is grounded in both the national curriculum and EUs key competences.
