Objectives

As youth workers we are often under stress while addressing the needs of vulnerable young people and trying to reach youth in our communities that many other services do not reach. We come to the profession of a youth worker with a passion and dedication to make the lives of young people better and healthier. Working professionally on a voluntary or paid basis, we take our work very close to our hearts and try to find time for everything and everyone but rarely for ourselves. Therefore, we believe it is highly important to equip youth workers involved in our partner organizations in the European Union (Sweden, Bulgaria, Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Portugal) and in the Neighboring Partner countries (Armenia, Belarus, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, Russian, Ukraine) with the knowledge and skills to be able to use self-care techniques in their personal and professional lives. This will also lead to the improvement of our common projects and the quality of our partnership. Through an 8-day Training Course "MANTRA - Yoga, Meditation and Self-Care Practices in Youth Work” we aim to support 36 youth workers from the EU and non-EU countries to identify ways to prevent and reduce stress as well as develop self-care practices and self-awareness through practicing yoga and meditation. Through incorporating yoga and meditation as self-care practices into their daily routine, they will be better equipped to identify and address the needs of the young people they work with in their communities. The Training Course pursues the following objectives: A) Supporting youth workers, professionals, community leaders and trainers to learn and identify activities and practices that can support their well-being, and help them develop healthy behavior patterns when responding to challenging work situations; B) Identifying the principal causes of stress and burn-out; C) Defining self-care and self-awareness, and explaining how they can support and enhance the youth workers when they experience pressure or stress in their work; D) Creating a safe space in which participants feel comfortable being the receivers of support and sharing their needs and challenges; E) Integrating and sustaining yoga, meditation and other self-care practices in the daily routines of our participants, and learning to practice relaxation and mindfulness techniques; F) Defining what self-care and self-awareness mean and explaining how they can support and enhance the youth workers when they experience pressure or stress in their work; G) Developing a personal self-care plan which will include concrete strategies on how to reduce and manage stress, how to enhance health in order to maintain well-being and professionalism; H) Explore how yoga, meditation and self-care practices can be used in youth work in general and in our work with vulnerable youth and young people with fewer opportunities in particular; I) Strengthening the partnership between the organizations involved, improving the competences of participants and the quality of joint projects. The proposed project goes in line with Erasmus+ Program priorities and aims to improve the level of key competences and skills of youth workers with particular regard to their contribution to a cohesive society and increases cooperation between Program and Partner-Countries. The project also applies to the objectives of the Key Action 1, such as supporting the professional development of those who work in the field of education, training and youth as well as innovating and improving the quality of teaching, training and youth work across Europe. At the same time we it will help our beneficiaries to improve the way of operating towards their target groups and will create improved qualifications as well as more modern, dynamic, committed and professional environment inside the organizations.
