One of the main goals of the project was to strengthen the school's activities in the European area. Student mobilities, in addition to strengthening their EU affiliation and perfecting their knowledge of foreign languages, brought an important experience abroad, which gave them an insight into life and work in a foreign-speaking environment. With the mobility project, we were faced with the fact that all mobilities took place during the COVID restrictions and many goals were more difficult to achieve, but we are still satisfied with what was achieved. The main goals of the project can be defined as: - to set of practical training to students - improving the professional and general competences of students - improving communication skills in foreign languages, which is very important for the nature of the seafarer's profession - to increase students' self-confidence and independence in the personal and professional field - make it possible to learn about the diversity of cultures, customs, and languages and thus contribute to intercultural dialogue - improve the quality of education - to increase the possibility of employment of students - promotion of the occupation via national television
The project was aimed at the mobility of students and staff of the Piran Maritime Secondary School (GEPŠ Piran unit). Our wish was for that our students upgrade their school knowledge and strengthen their skills through practical work on the school yacht or training center abroad. Due to the specificity of the maritime industry, there is a lack of domestic successful companies in which our students could test themselves and train their skills. Therefore, despite the status of a maritime country, we think that occupations related to maritime affairs are considered somewhat inferior, which is also evident in the lower interest of the government, resulting in reduced interest of students in these occupations and lower enrolment in the first year of school. Our project pursued the principle of "learning by doing", which enabled students to test and gain new skills. In addition we organised mobility also for our staff, so that they gained new experience through the mobility, which they will use in the composition of the innovative curriculum, the preparation of extracurricular activities (visit of a partner from Germany), as well as in making connections contacts for new, future projects (visit of a partner from Poland).
