Objectives

Our target groups, minority adult learners, generally perceive their minority associations as a form of socializing and relaxation. Due to lack of motivation and time, lack of appropriate educational programs and lack of awareness of the importance of lifelong learning, minority members are mostly not enough motivated to engage in educational, cultural and work processes to improve their integration into the local environment and majority society. In accordance with the adopted development strategy and the operational work plan of our organization, we addressed the following topics through the project activities: - improving educational programmes through the acquisition of new knowledge, skills and competences, - strengthening the potential adult educators and minority learners, - improving the motivation of adult minority members to participate in various forms of non-formal education and - improving institutional capacities of our organisation.

Background

We have applied a mobility project New Perspectives of Knowledge due to the lack of good practices and strategies in the field of non-formal education of minority members. The educational programs of minority organizations that provide non-formal education are specific and different from traditional organizations active in the field of adult education. Minority NGOs implementing non-formal adult education programs are facing poor interest and motivation of their members in non-formal education, which would improve their knowledge, competencies and skills and consequently lead to improved employment opportunities and better social integration. In addressing the needs of the target groups of our adult learners, ex-Yugoslav immigrant communities living in Slovenia, and following the strategy of our organization, we wanted to establish a proactive approach by transferring good practices from abroad in non-formal education and consequently contribute to their greater social integration.
