The youth exchange seeks to make society more aware of the open collective acceptance of the concept of differences that disabled and otherwise deprived individuals involuntarily experience mostly in a negative sense, due to which this group of the population is pushed to the margins of society to a greater degree. Foremost, our goal is to get to know disabled people and, through our interaction, familiarize ourselves with the obstacles they encounter in everyday life, which exceed our preliminary expectations. We believe that these differences are best understood when we get to know closely the consequences they have. This is why we seek to address the needs of young disabled people, give voice to their initiatives and empower them in their everyday battles. Our goal is to lessen the stigma in the local environment of every partner organisation, encourage and develop greater tolerance toward disabled people. They will be represented as equal members of society, while we will seek similarities since we are more alike then we chose to acknowledge. Our goal is also to lessen fear younger generations harbour towards disabled people and thus highlight our common aspirations: all of us desire fulfilling relationships, psychical and general well-being, inclusion into society and a sense of belonging to the society we live in. In addition to aforementioned goals that address the wider public, other goals include other target groups, one of them being the expert public and relevant stakeholder in the field (associations of disabled people, public and educational institutes, other relevant institutions and associations, Municipality of Murska Sobota etc.), whom we wish to present our initiative and transfer examples of best practice from partner organisations. We plan to achieve this goal through an invitation to direct participation in activities as well as through involving local media (Pomurec.com and others) that will report on our implemented activities throughout the period of the exchange and showcase results of the exchange at our final press conference. Given that young disabled people are one of the target groups of the exchange, our foal is to actively accept them among ourselves, bringing our slogan "We are one!" into practice. We will get to know disabled people, organize socializing in groups and pairs, walks, activities (arrange the school garden, make salt dough jewellery) and enable participants to gather new social experiences with their peers. This takes into consideration the notion that young disabled people are often unjustly deprived of the company of their peers, which prompted our goal to give them the sense of being wanted and improve their self-esteem. Provided they are willing to participate, they will be given the possibility to become active participants of our activities through appearing in our promotional video or being guests at our press conference. Last but not least, we – the participants of the exchange – are a target group of our exchange, since we have become a part of the exchange with the objective to further our personal development and additional skills. Our goal is to complete the exchange as mature and contemplative individuals, mindful of such societal issues. A further goal is to enhance social skills related to the development of empathy and deepened sense of sympathy for other human beings, increase awareness levels in sensitive social environments and consequently to include deprived or disabled people among ourselves. We anticipate that we will develop a greater degree of altruism, critical thinking and an active role toward burning issues in society. We target improved communicational competences (in foreign language as well), improved analytical and research competences, development in the fields of ICT in connection to visual and media communications, improved command of web tools such as Youthpass and Eurodesk. We hope to gain new experiences through informal learning ("learning by doing") as opposed to conventional learning methods that all participants have experienced in formal educational processes. We aim to transfer knowledge through so called "mentoring approaches" and enhanced knowledge of diverse roles within youth exchanges (youth worker, participant, project partner). We believe that we will reach a higher level of motivation for future inclusion into programmes of learning mobility and/or volunteering schemes. Simultaneously, a higher level of self-confidence, gaining of new experiences and soft skills increase our possibilities of future employment. Through the exchange, the goal of including young people with less opportunities regarding their social, geographical and economic status, since some of the participants will be provided with their first opportunity for inclusion into a programme of international learning mobility.
