Objectives

As youth workers and D&D enthusiasts, we want to use the game as an educational tool for promoting discourse and dialogue about the pressing matters of the world today through role playing characters that the participants will create themselves. We want to bring this method to Europe and develop it accordingly. We want to try out fantasy roleplay as an educational tool and develop it further with the help of the participants. Participants will experience scenarios of gender and religious discrimination, violation of basic human rights, poverty, climate change induced extreme weather and unsustainable resource management through roleplay and try to actively participate in resolving the situation. We’ll put their in-game experience into perspective through discussion following the roleplay session to stimulate self-reflection and increase the sense of social responsibility. At the same time we will learn a new, fun way to actively spend leisure time, which improves social skills, problem-solving ability and creativity. Team leaders will experience and analyze the fantasy roleplay as a youth work method, which will improve and modernize their work in the future.
