Objectives

By submitting the project, we wanted to improve the theoretical and professional level of students of practical nurse / medical assistant programme while performing activities given by law independently, which can be applied within the care of patients / clients in medical and social facilities throughout the EU. Quality improvement at both levels was mainly focused on the development of new competencies of the programme graduate in the diverse conditions of medical practice.

Background

We applied for the project on the basis of a change in education in the medical assistant programme, which was renamed to the practical nurse programme. The mentioned situation was also related to the increase in the range of practical training in the given medical profession based on Act no. 156 of 2018. Assistance by some performances was changed to independent work which also brought more responsibility for the performances, provided that the level of not only theoretical, but especially practical training of students is improved. The request resulted also from the acute need to introduce as many well-prepared professionals as possible into medical practice, which is related to the long-term shortage of medical staff. An equally important factor for the implementation of the project was the increase in the motivation of selected students for the performance of medical profession, through learning and adopting new, modern nursing procedures, work organization and the ability to adapt in a foreign team and environment.
