The objectives of our project Check fake! is to talk about the toxicity of fake news, disinformation, warn against different forms of manipulation and underline the importance of critical thinking. We want to use various modern and innovative methods to educate project participants – provide theory but also let them work on exercises individually or in groups and also apply their knowledge on the concrete real-life examples. We will also use the method - learning by doing – so games will be used to illustrate the functioning of disinformation sites. The presentations of professionals from the area of countering disinformation are expected to have an important impact on participants too. By implementing the project we want to achieve spreading of knowledge about fake news, disinformation which are dangerously spreading everywhere in the world. People are misled by fake news, manipulated to think certain way, behave and vote in a way it is expected. We want to encourage these young people participating in the project to be more cautious about the news, verify facts, do not believe crazy conspiracy stories and work on sharpening their critical thinking capacities. Additionally, we will explain them how it is important to help their communities and peers to counter the damaging influence of fake news and disinformation. We also want to reinforce the cooperation among young people from different countries and different backgrounds for a good cause and teach them about the importance of empathy, tolerance, respect and decent communication.
