With this project, we aimed for our teachers to learn various methods and techniques to be used in the classroom environment, such as helping students develop their social skills, implementing activities that include interaction in the classroom environment, following the literature on multiculturalism, and asking questions that support critical thinking, in line with the gains that our participating teachers would gain. So,our teachers would be able to implement strategies they deem effective in their schools, and they would gain the skills to lead and guide students effectively, especially by increasing their participation in education, culture and society, and reducing discrimination and prejudices within the education system, especially for the different needs of refugees/immigrants and other disadvantaged groups. In addition, we wanted our participant teachers, whom we aimed to have the necessary pedagogical knowledge and skills to have knowledge about various creative drama activities and teaching methods with games for different student groups, and to make the teaching of the lessons more enjoyable and active by experiencing about innovative and modern teaching methods.
The number of refugee/immigrant students in schools affiliated to our Directorate is increasing day by day. With the entry of refugee children into the education and training process, multicultural environments have started to emerge in schools, and gradually increasing problems have been experienced in the adaptation of newly arrived children to school and the acceptance of these children by existing Turkish students. For this reason, with this project, in order to be able to solve the problems experienced in our partner schools, which have the highest number of refugee/immigrant students in our province, we aimed to minimize the difficulties experienced by participating teachers in their classrooms by adopting a multicultural education system, meeting the different needs of learners, increasing the participation of disadvantaged students in education, culture and society, and reducing discrimination within the education system. Thus, when the school environment of refugee students is positive, along with the academic success of the student, the school adjustment and sense of belonging would increase and school absenteeism/drop-out would decrease.
