Background

5725 refugee students were getting educated in schools affiliated to our Directorate. Our teachers, who teach refugee students in their classrooms, stated in the provincial group meetings that they face many difficulties such as language problems, low academic achievement, adaptation problems to school culture or discontinuity. Then, a needs analysis questionnaire was applied to the teachers and students in our schools with a high number of refugee students. As a result of the survey, it was found that the awareness levels of teachers and students towards multiculturalism were low; refugee students could not achieve social harmony with other students; It has been concluded that teachers have difficulties in multicultural education and that they are insufficient in teaching language to refugee students. Education and training is an indispensable part of social integration. Refugee students trying to live in a foreign culture need to receive a good education in order to adapt to the society and feel a sense of belonging to the society. That's why, as our Directorate, we applied to this project to find a solution to the integration of refugee students and to learn about new approaches in multicultural education.
