Objectives

Empowerment defined as a process involving social, political and legal changes to enable people who are marginalised and disadvantaged in the society to participate and shape their life in the context of development and poverty reduction. Most approaches in empowerment discourse focuses on capacity building of an individual and at the same time deconstruction of norms, structures and the networks shaped in social boundaries to increase social mobility of individuals in social stratification. The NGOs, international development agencies considers the empowerment generally in 4 different pillars as such : Social, Economical, Political and Cultural Empowerment. When the implications of empowerment work are considered, the wide range of a implications can be seen as from provision of livelihood of individuals, supporting to autonomy of individuals, supporting to organization and mobilisation of individuals to direct changes in cultural norms. The lack of knowledge on social rights as such participation to employment, health services, social security of disadvantaged youth groups constitute an obstacle on participation. In this direction, legal empowerment concept plays a role on increasing the participation and social mobility of young people in the existing social structures. Legal empowerment work would support the mobility of the individuals in recent social structures and increase their capabilities as well would support the participation to society of individuals. Most distinctive feature of legal empowerment concept defined by OS Justice Initiative from universal legal support mechanisms is to act collectively as we indicated before. In other words, it is the approach of “We will solve this together” rather than “We will solve this problem for you” approach. In a sense case of working with disadvantaged societies and increasing the capacities of the individuals to solve the problems of the others collectively creates the basis of para legal support mechanism. Therefore, with this training program that we would like to implement, we want to increase the knowledge of youth workers on legal manners and increase their capabilities to empower the young people in their surrounding. Mainly increasing the youth workers knowledge on legal manners to help the marginalized and excluded young people will play a huge role on their empowerment and their involvement to the social life. Therefore, we planned to implement this project to increase the capacities of youth workers as well as the young people in long run to teach them about human rights violations ( i.e. discrimination in work place / or during the study due to skin color, race or religion etc. ) and tackle with this violations through out the legal empowerment in European Context by qualifying youth workers as paralegals. The objectives of the project are ; - To create a common understanding about human rights violations - To raise an awareness about racism and discrimination and its legal effects - To raise an awareness about gender-based violance and sexual abuse - To raise an awareness about social stratification and social mobility - To inform youth workers about New Tactics on Human Rights ( http://newtactics.org ) - To raise an awareness and create a knowledge about fundamental rights - To qualify youth workers on human rights' issues to act through out legal channels to address the legal needs of the disadvantaged societies ( marginalized youth, refugees, socially excluded groups, minorities )
