GENERAL OBJECTIVE The general objective of the project was to contribute to increasing the creativity and innovation of non-formal education activities with special disadvantaged groups such as refugees and improving the quality and effectiveness of these activities. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES The specific objectives of the project were: 1. To ensure that non-formal education methods produced for the thematic areas of active participation, empowerment, intercultural learning and employability are adapted according to their own realities, especially for refugee youth. 2. Developing a methodology that serves as a guide for youth workers to make similar method adaptations in different thematic areas. 3. Increasing the capacity of youth workers and youth organizations active in European Youth Work to work with refugee youth. TARGET GROUPS, FINAL BENEFICIARIES & RELATION OF THE PROJECT TO THEIR NEEDS The direct target group of the project was youth workers and their institutions working in the field of immigrants and refugees. The final beneficiaries were other youth workers working with migrants, youth organisations, refugee/immigrant and/or non-migrant youth, refugees in Turkey and the EU, migrants and local communities. Our main starting point in realizing the project was that the years of experience in non-formal education were insufficient to respond to today's social needs and local realities. The area where this inadequacy shows itself the most is refugee studies. For example, educational methods (learning games, simulations, etc.) produced in an international context do not fit the local realities and cultural differences of refugees. Youth workers, on the other hand, have difficulties in solving this conflict with their current competencies. Because the Arab Spring and the Syrian crisis brought a new target group to the youth workers that they were not familiar with. Method Adaptation is the solution to the problem of methods mismatching with local realities, and we set out to achieve this fundamental goal. Method adaptation is the updating of non-formal education methods based on local realities and needs, in accordance with the cultural universe of the target groups, with the active participation of young people. Therefore, (1) youth workers have to develop their competencies in method adaptation; and (2) this adaptation process should focus primarily on the most important needs of refugee youth. In the context of the migration crisis that has been going on for years, needs such as integration and social cohesion have come to the fore even more. In order to support this adaptation, it is necessary to develop awareness and competencies of refugee youth on (1) active participation, (2) empowerment, (3) intercultural learning and (4) employability. In summary; our project was designed and implemented to fully respond to the above-mentioned needs of the target groups. On the one hand, while improving the competence of youth workers in method adaptation, on the other hand, new/adapted training methods were developed in the most important development areas of refugee youth. Moreover, this entire adaptation methodology has been disseminated in a way that can improve the capacity of all youth workers and organizations working in this field.
