Integration of refugeesInclusion - equityMigrants' issues

Objectives

Migration largely affects youth, taking into account that tangible percentage of migrants are young people. In this scope, the project addressed the issues of intolerance and xenophobia towards immigrants based on lack of intercultural dialogue and reluctance to focus on finding better integration mechanisms. Moreover, young people tend to exclude immigrants from local communities. Nevertheless, youth are frequently excluded from the public debates and discussions and their voice is not heard in majority of cases. We believe that the alternative to multiculturalism can be the concept of interculturalism, which focuses more on intercultural dialogue, cultural exchange and awareness. With current situation in Europe, it is inevitable that youngsters will encounter more and more immigrants and/or refugees in their environment, therefore there is a need to find better solutions for living together in diversity and dignity. Intercultural learning and dialogue could be a solution for promoting integration of local youth with immigrants and consider youth workers as actors who would have promoted that dialogue among young generation. Based on experiences that our NGO had, youth organizations and youth workers should have been the ones to promote intercultural dialogue through human rights education among young people. The project has been developed by the partner organizations as a reaction towards the recent migration crisis, with the aim to empower youth workers to use intercultural dialogue as a tool in combating intolerance towards migrants, fostering mutual understanding and creating better integration mechanisms in shaping more inclusive Europe. The project has targeted to: * provide conceptual framework on main notions, such as emigration, immigration, integration, interculturalism and multiculturalism * reflect on emigration and immigration situation in participating countries and find out the reasons of migration, namely push and pull factors * discuss and analyze the current migration challenges in Europe and try to offer solutions from the perspective of youth work * foster tolerance, respect and open-mindedness towards migrants while working with young people * share experiences and best practices of integration mechanisms * work on follow-up projects addressing the issues related to the topic and develop future cooperation.
