Youth unemployment is one of the most serious economic and social problems faced in Europe. In 2016, there were 4.2 million young people between the ages of 15-24 who were unable to find a job in the EU, and more than 6.3 million young people were not in employment, education or training. According to the 2018 data of the European Statistical Office, there are 3.5 million unemployed young people. Although the youth unemployment rate decreased from 2016 to 2018, it is seen that long-term youth unemployment is still at record levels and nearly double the general unemployment rate of 8.5% at 15.6% (https://bit.ly/2T5mcJf). According to TUIK, October 2018 Labor Force Statistics, it is seen that the general unemployment rate is 11.6% and the youth unemployment rate is 22.3%. According to the data of İş-Kur Malatya July 2018; It is seen that the number of unemployed young people between the ages of 15-24 is 10 thousand 468 people, that is 32.9% of the total unemployed, which is well above the Turkey average. As a team, we realized our project named “Self-Confidence-Take Action”, which aims to increase the employability of young people through the development of their social skills and knowledge (soft skill skills), as a solution proposal to youth unemployment, which is the main problem of our country and the EU, based on these problems. Our overall project goals were as follows: - The skills of young people from 4 different countries were developed in 6 basic areas: leadership, crisis management, effective communication, creative problem solving, time management and presentation skills. - 6 different platforms were introduced where they can get free training on soft skills. - A Career Action Plan booklet has been created to guide young people on how to develop their soft skills and plan their careers. - Awareness has been created in the society about the importance of soft skills as a solution to the problem of youth unemployment - By getting to know what employers tend to look for in an employee during recruitment, 38 young people from 4 different countries shared their experiences with their peers and discussed issues related to youth unemployment and employment in a broader perspective. -Newly graduated/unemployed young people are instilled with new hopes for their careers, contributed to their personal development and encouraged to become aware of themselves. -38 young people who participated in our project were informed about the E+ program and the opportunities it provides, and it contributed to the dissemination of the program by reaching thousands of young people in the long run.
