Project summary

Robots starting to take their place in every area of our lives and they have become an indispensable part of the 21st century thanks to the rapidly developing technology. When we think that robots will do a lot of human works in recent history, it has become a necessity to give importance to robotic education in schools and to provide development in this regard. As project partners, Robotics Coding training is one of the most important issues that we focus on and give importance to. Our Project was formed with the participation of eight different institutions from Tukey,Finland,Italy,Crotia, Portugal and Romania. As project partners, increasing the number of robotic coding classes and courses is one of our main objectives in our project. In addition, by increasing the quality of the robotic coding trainings given at partner schools is also one of our main objectives to provide more students and teachers to benefit from these trainings and to provide the Robotic Coding training given in special schools like Nezihe Derya Baltalı Science and Art center to the level that can meet the needs of gifted students. In this context, we plan to create an awareness for the proliferation of robotic coding classes in partner contries and allocate an important budget for robotic coding training. Our target groups in our project will be a group of students of all ages who study at high school. Developing software, algorithms, language training, robot design and coding skills is one of our common goals with all our project partners. With our project, students and teachers will see various robotic and coding methodologies. Our participants will develop new coding techniques by exchanging ideas with team work in project activities, and will learn innovative methods and techniques by performing activities simultaneously with partner countries. We will organize small tournaments in order to increase the motivation of the students in the project. In this way, we will keep the students' readiness levels and motivation at a high level during our project. Robotic coding is an education that facilitates the perception of abstract and ambiguous science subjects. In our project, the integration of robotics coding to mathematics and science courses will also be discussed. As an innovative front for our project, it is planned to deliver this course in our project partner schools by carrying out activities related to the methods and techniques of the Robotic Assisted Mathematics course. In the coding trainings, LEGO EV3, MBot, Arduino robot designs will be discussed and these robots will be controlled with Scratch, mBlock and C programming languages. The robot and the coding are integral to each other. While determining our activities with our partners, we also attached importance to the coding structure which will control the robot besides robot design. These robot designs will be used with many robot kits, so we will examine a wide range of robot design in today's technology. In our project, we would like to transfer the good practices of each other as partner countries from all these robotic studies. In particular, Finland’s and Italy’s LEGO EV3 studies, applications mBot of Romania and Turkey’s, Croatia’s, Portugal’s Arduino experinces will ensure that the Project as a whole. At the end of the project our students are expected to develop their skills for creativity and innovation, communication and cooperation, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, digital citizenship, their understanding of the qualities of design, technology operations and concepts, and technological world. The expected effects of our project on our schools in the short term will be as follows; positive outcomes that increase academic achievement will be obtained, awareness will be raised about coding, increasing interest in robotics, awareness of foreign language culture, increasing interest in mathematics and science, activities in line with European Union standards will be provided.

Objectives

We were aware that in our world where technology is developing extremely fast, we need well-educated, flexible individuals with good communication skills and computer literacy. Our project topic, Robotic Coding, is an extremely popular topic of interest to all students. Thanks to our project, we wanted our students to develop their foreign language and communication skills, improve their problem solving and robotic skills, as well as build lasting friendships. Our aim is to increase the competencies of teachers and to equip our students with information technology skills and to train them as producers, not consumers. In this context, by teaching Robotic Coding to our students who follow technology closely, we aimed to raise a generation that can produce new products and applications as well as using technological products. With our project, we aimed to open the world of Robotics to students, to contribute to the students' thinking as programmers and problem solvers, and to improve Robotic Coding skills and improve foreign language skills by sharing good practices among our teachers. In addition, with Robotic Coding, we aimed to teach our students to command computers and robots at a young age, so that they can easily use the basic knowledge they have gained in places where computers and machines are available in their business life. Another aim of our project was to support the education and development policies of our country by raising awareness for a large number of students, who receive coding education in the national and international arena, who think analytically, who are problem-solving, creative, collaborative. Also we wanted our students and teachers to reach the fairs organized by institutions such as Tübitak and Teknofest in our country, thanks to the information they gained from our project, to design and compete with them, thanks to our project. Our common goal in our project is to introduce innovative methods and good practices to students in our education regions, to share our experience and knowledge in the field of Robotic Coding throughout Europe, and to increase the number of Robotic Coding classes in our cities with the support of the authorities. We also want to increase the interest in Robotic Coding by raising awareness in the environment where our project partners are located, and to produce different and new projects in this regard. For this reason, we turned our project achievements and good practices into a module and shared them on our website and social media accounts. ( http://futurelanguage.org/?p=110 ) We also aimed to support our teachers with Robotic-assisted Mathematics (http://futurelanguage.org/?page_id=687), an innovative education method that we discussed in our project.

Background

When we look at the characteristics that qualified individuals should have; They are defined as individuals who can solve problems, question, love to research, have communication skills, are open to cooperation and productive. The process of raising a qualified individual is also related to getting a good education in the digital age, that is, scientific literacy. A literate individual should be able to analyze and evaluate the basic sources and methods related to the quality of scientific data. Developments in science and technology are possible by raising individuals who are interested in this field and will work in this field. Today, individuals' interest in technology at a young age and the most important factor in their efforts to improve themselves in this field are Robots and coding. In terms of innovative approaches, Robotic Coding will be an indispensable part of education all over the world in the coming years. With the rapidly developing technology, Robotic Coding comes first among the subjects preferred by educational institutions both in our country and all over the world. In this context, our project is of great importance for our institution, our partners and our country's education policies. In our world where technology is developing extremely rapidly, we need well-educated, flexible individuals with good communication skills and computer literacy. Our country and all project partner countries need a well-educated workforce of individuals who have 21st century skills, are talented, and have good interdisciplinary interaction. As Denizli Provincial Directorate of National Education, we have created our project setup, believing that our project will make a great contribution to raising well-trained individuals with high digital skills. One of the most important issues among the targets and plans of our Denizli Provincial Directorate of National Education is Robotic Coding and STEM education. In this context, the increase in the number of schools with Robotics classrooms in Denizli, and therefore the increase in Robotics courses, is of great importance for the Provincial Directorate of National Education. In addition, from our project partners; Atatürk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which is one of the biggest schools in Denizli, and Nezihe Derya Baltalı Science and Art Center and our project partner schools in Finland, Romania, Portugal, Italy and Croatia are also equipped with LEGO, Arduino and mBot robot kits and have computers. Supported Robotic Coding classes are available. However, due to the rapid progress of technology and the increasing importance of 21st century skills, it has emerged that we need new education models that will provide our children with the power to dominate the information society they live in. We applied to this project in order to meet the necessity of mutual transfer of innovative methods and good practices in the meetings held with our project partners in foreign countries, and the improvement and development of Robotic Coding training of our partners in line with the objectives of our project. In addition, being successful in national and international competitions in all our project partners, increasing academic success, improving the digital competencies of our teachers, improving the knowledge and skills of our students, expanding our corporate culture and international network, creating EU citizenship awareness and creating a culture of multilingualism are among the basic needs of our institution and our partners.
