Project summary

The subject of our project called 'Coding Our Future' is to make Robotics and coding, which is an innovative application accepted all over the world, a part of education. The efficient use of science and technology in our rapidly developing world will provide growing the generations who have knowledge about how the world we live in and who do not watch the developments in the distance. This project is the integration activities of robotics and coding into the school course and curriculum. The most important aim of our project in the field of Robotics and Coding is to give our students a new way of thinking and problem solving ability. We aim to raise generations that can distinguish artificial intelligence and real intelligence, predict risks and take measures, divide big tasks into small pieces, work efficiently, and solve complex problem in the future. We also aim to develop students' ability to approach solutions to problems, to address innovative practices in education by supporting collaborative learning and critical thinking; promote and strengthen intercultural dialogue;to discover the place of robotic coding in STEM studies,to have knowledge about intelligence and strategy games and to increase social integration. The applicant institution is Şehit Halit Yaşar Mine Secondary School. It is a school open to all kinds of innovations, participating in science fairs, coding festivals and knowledge competitions, and developing the vision of both students and the people of the region. One of the project partners is Cardarelli Institute, Italy. The institute is of primary importance in the cultural framework of the province and is a training center with modern infrastructure and technology.Other project partner San Juan and San Pablo Foundation is located in Spain. The school is a successful school with experience in education, trying to turn young people into ambitious, successful, happy and flexible young people and adults.Other project partner Ion Gh.The Rosca school is located in Romania. It is a school that aims to create skills, knowledge and competence for students and to increase their social competence. The age range of the students who will join the mobilities will be 10-15. In the the project lasting 24 months, four mobilities will be realized. The first planned mobility will be in Italy. In this activity, participants will be given a seminar about structured coding and there will be coding workshops and cultural visits. The host of second mobility is Romania. In the mobility, the participants will learn to build and program a robot and visit a robot club. The third mobility will be in Spain.Logic games will be played in mobility,Arduino works will be done, robot parts will be created, a company which produces robots will be visited. The last mobility will be in Turkey. In this mobility, the traditional Turkish game Mangala will be introduced, workshops will be held on the introduction and use of sequential sensors and cultural trips will be made to science centers and technology university. Technical and methodologies such as presentation, demonstration, team work,research-examination,creative thinking,sampling,invention-exploration will be used in the conduct of the project. As a result of our project, there will be a common learning and change between the participants. The project will enable the students to learn the robotics and coding and use them in their daily lives in a simple way.Companion teachers will develop their skills in robotics and coding, and they will develop themselves in the integration of robotic and coding with all branch courses and school curricula. Thus, more effective, efficient and fun of the lessons will be ensured, the quality of education will increase. In addition, companion teachers will transfer to other teachers in the institution and then to other institutions in the region, when they return to their own country within the scope of dissemination. Thus, the results and effects of the project will be extended to a wider area. After the activities of the participating students and teachers, analytical, algorithmic and creative thinking skills will develop, more solution-oriented, critical and collaborative thinking skills will increase in all areas of life.A cultural change will be experienced among the stakeholders, speaking and understanding skills of students and teachers' foreign language will improve. The development of individuals who are equipped with 21st century skills, critically looking, questioning, compatible with European culture is the most important of the long-term benefits of the project. The project will develop common European values of participant students and companion teachers, and their social integration will be strengthened. In the developing and changing world, more advanced training will be taken with robotic and coding to obtain information. In this way, the development of new generations will be ensured in the long term to understand technology and create technology.

Final report summary

The subject of our project, named as "Coding our future", was the integration of Robotics and Coding into the school course and curriculum in the education-teaching process. With our project, we aimed to raise generations who follow and effectively use the developments in science and technology, not watch the developments from a far, and could distinguish between artificial intelligence and real intelligence. The most important aim of our project was to provide our students with a new way of thinking and problem-solving skills. We aimed to developing our students' ability to approach problems with a solution-oriented approach, supporting collaborative learning and critical thinking, and addressing innovative practices in education; to strengthen intercultural dialogue; increase social integration. The coordinator institution was Şehit Halit Yaşar Mine Secondary School. Our project partners were Cardarelli Institute in Italy, San Juan and San Pablo Foundation School in Spain, and Ion Gh.Rosca schools in Romania. The age range of the students participating in the mobilities was between 10-15. Our project, which was planned to last for 24 months, took 36 months due to the Covid-19 epidemic that affected the whole world since 2019. All activities stopped for 1 year due to Covid-19. It started again in the 2021-2022 education period. Therefore, there have been some changes in the mobility rankings and dates specified in the application form after covid due to the availability of all our partners in their countries and their school education planning. We carried out our first mobility in IIS" Vincenzo Cardarelli institution in Italy between 25-29 November 2019 with the participation of 3 accompanying teachers and 8 students. In this activity, a seminar on structured coding, scratch and Bohm Jacopini's theorem was given to the participants, and workshops were held on coding. The second mobility was held between 29 November and 3 December 2021 at the Fundacion San Juan San Pablo institution in Spain. Mobility took place with the participation of 4 of our teachers due to covid.Due to the covid epidemic, none of our students could actually participate in this activity, since the Adana governorate did not approve the departure of the participating students. 70 of our students participated in the activities online. Teachers and students of our Italian partners also participated in this activity online due to covid. Thus, a hybrid activity was carried out in our 3rd movement. In this mobility, ardunio training was given to the participants. The third activity was hosted by our school in Turkey between 28 March-1April 2022 with 4 accompanying teachers and 8 students. In this activity, workshops were held on the introduction and use of ardunio sensors, and cultural trips were made to science centers and technology university. The last activity was carried out between 23-27 May 2022 with 4 accompanying teachers and 13 students at the Liceul Teoretic Ion Gh.Rosca institution in Romania. In the mobility, the participants learned how to build robots, Lego Mindstorm and programming.A visit to a robot club was made.Cultural tours were held during all activities.A cultural interaction took place among all participants. As a result of our project, there was a common learning and exchange between the participants. The accompanying teachers improved themselves in the integration of robotics and coding into all branch courses and school curriculum with the achievements they gained from each other, by making progress in robotics and coding. Thus, the lessons were taught more effectively, efficiently and enjoyablely, and the quality of education was increased. In addition, when the accompanying teachers returned to their own countries within the scope of dissemination, they first transferred the gains and skills they had gained to other teachers in the institution and then to other institutions in the region. Thus, the results and effects of the project were spread over a wider area. There had a cultural exchange among the stakeholders, and students' and teachers' ability to speak and understand foreign languages improved. One of the long-term benefits of the project was to raise individuals who are equipped with 21st century skills, who look critically, who question, and who are compatible with European culture. With the project, the common European values of the participating students and accompanying teachers were developed and their social integration was strengthened. A more advanced education was received with robotics and coding in acquiring knowledge in the developing and changing world. In this way, the development of new generations was achieved in understanding and creating technology in the long term. This awareness and interaction in the field of Robotics and Coding brought a new vision to all our institutions, district students and teachers. Interest and curiosity about Erasmus projects increased in our school and around the school.
