Objectives Journey to Work 6 have been achieved! - We wanted to achieve that 70% of the recent VET graduates would positively complete the assessment phase, would be ready to travel & progress to the development phase, the mobility abroad in Spain or Holland). We reached 80%. - The aim was too achieve that 90% of the recent VET graduates doing work placements abroad should return to UK with work experience and are 'job ready' to enter the labour market: We reached 100%: 9 out of 9. This includes all 3 groups, although we have only done 9 mobilities (due to Corona), everyone achieved to return ‘job ready’. The last group has returned recently, but all young people are in jobs. We are currently making sure they keep their jobs... - Our aim was that 75% of the project recent VET graduates who have successfully completed the project will still be at work 1 year after completion of the project. We achieved this and have an excellent score: 100%. All young people are working, although we are aware that flow 2 and flow 3 (which returned May 31st 2022 and December 23rd 2021) are formally working just about 2 months and 8 months. - 100% of the project participants have been evaluated. - Very positive testimonials from JTW6 participants
Joblessness lasting more than 6 months is a major factor prventing young people from getting (re)hired. This has grave consequences: Loss of production (after all, the unemployed does not produce anything), higher social expenditure (because young people in benefits), lower tax revenues (because they do not pay taxes) and slower economic growth (because with less income also less money to spend). The consequences for the recent graduates are also often very serious; Their self-confidence decreases, self-reliance decreases and a dependence on social benefits arises. Moreover, with an ever-increasing risk as the duration of unemployment increases. In any given month, a recent graduate has a 20-30% chance of finding a new job. However, by the time the graduate has been unemployed for 6 months, the odds drop to one in ten. Scientific research (Nordstrom/Skans, 2011) shows that an unemployment period of more than 51 days after graduation significantly increases the chance of unemployment 5 years later. That's why Journey to Work 6 kicks in ! The Journey to Work programme has shown it's good practise, because it provides an intensive Journey with 6-week work experience, good quality coaching and a very smooth functioning network: JTW6
