Objectives

The aims of the project were: 1. to improve the personal development of participants through the acquisition of learning outcomes through a diverse cultural experience. The participants on the project would have been exposed to new techniques within the hospitality industry. Working in the hospitality in industry in Italy and France would have had the added value of working in a new cultural environment and therefore improving the overall employability skills of the participants. 2. This would have been the first experience of travel outside of the UK for many of the participants. Many of this cohort would have come from areas of deprivation and so opportunities to travel would be limited. 3. The chance for college students to put classroom taught skills into the real world of work through the work experience opportunities this project offered. 4. It was also hoped this project would help HSDC to gain more international organisations to work with and therefore broaden an international curriculum to our students.

Background

HSDC applied for this project as it was seen that Erasmus+ mobilities offered our students the chance to experience working and learning in new cultural settings. The funding would have given many participants the opportunity of their first trip outside of the UK. It would have exposed them to the real world of work but within a culturally diverse setting. It would have also enabled the college to deepen a working relationship with ENAC in Italy and start a new relationship with Mission Locale in Picardie. The view was to create long term relationships with these and other organisations to enable HSDC to internationalise its curriculum to offer the change to future student to experience mobilities and to enable other organisations to send participants to HSDC for opportunities in the UK.
