Cultural heritage/European Year of Cultural HeritageIntercultural/intergenerational education and (lifelong)learningEnterprise, industry and SMEs (incl. entrepreneurship)

Objectives

We wanted to: Highlight and share best practice examples of traditional skills techniques and training methods in our target countries Highlight and share best practice examples of sustainable management of locally sourced materials Highlight and share best practice examples of enterpreneurship and employment opportunities related to traditional skills and materials Build a network of traditional skills practitioners and trainers across Europe Improve skills training, heritage management and employment opportunities in Scotland.

Background

We wanted to ensure that training in traditional skills and sustainable management of materials was included in the adult education courses and that skills and trainers were connected across Europe. Traditional skills mainly use locally sourced sustainable materials and they are an important but often marginal part of managing and sharing our natural and cultural heritage. They are also a source of flexible, rural employment and we wanted to explore economic and entrepreneurship options with participants in host countries and back in Scotland.
