Objectives

The project aims to link health and fitness with heritage discovery and intercultural learning. By bringing together different groups of young participants, the project will make them experience a new way of learning through fitness and staying healthy, in particular by using parks as tools as safe places to deliver the activites and involve the young people to connect with nature. The project involves one youth exchange in the Wirral, the peninsula near Liverpool, that in 2019 will be the borough of culture. Moreover, the Wirral is under the jurisdiction of the Liverpool City Region, which will be celebrating the Year of Environment in 2019. By the end of the project, we expect young people to be able to understand the advantages of an healthy lifestyle and how fitness can become an instrument for learning and enjoying cultural heritage. We also expect the young people from Italy, Greece, and Portugal to have reinforced their English skills, while at the same time we will expect the young English speakers to increase their interest in different cultures and languages. The project's objective is to empower young people facing fewer opportunities to experience cultural heritage discovery through fitness and sport activities. This objective can be split in several goals: 1) increase the understanding of young people regarding cultural heritage and the ways to discover and experience it, 2) allow young people to develop a critical thinking regarding cultural heritage sustainability, 3) support young people in learning about innovation in local development, specifically for sustainability, 4) Encourage the participants in becoming more physically active, while respecting their needs and capabilities. Moveover, the project has the objective of involving the local communities and the partner organisation in piloting a new methodology to heritage discovery based on fitness and wellbeing, event management and collaboration among stakeholders. The same involvement of stakeholders will also aim to involve different actors in thinking about heritage-based development, based on youth activities and mobilities.
