The project will specifically target young people who are considered marginalised and 'at risk' who suffer from a range of poor social, economic and health outcomes. The young people will be recruited from inner city Belfast and Dublin and will use Youth Work to explore the issues that impact on their lives. Specifically the programme will tackle the ''horizontal priority of inclusive education, training and youth'' using a youth work model of practice. The overall purpose of the programme is to enhance the social inclusion of young people by supporting and enhancing their rights, participation, education, health and well-being by widening their horizons beyond the 'walls' of their community. The main objectives of the programme are; 1. To explore the issues that impact on the lives of young people growing up in Belfast and Dublin. 2. To explore how community youth work with the help of EU funding has supported the Upper Springfield community to regenerate the local area. 3. To provide a safe space for young people to develop relationships across the Island of Ireland in the context of a post BREXIT situation. 4. To challenge young people to develop a more internationalist perspective, to think beyond their own lives and community and geographic area. 5. To use youth work practice as a mechanism to develop young people, build knowledge, awareness, resilience and self esteem. 6. To provide young people with a unique learning experience and opportunity to travel and explore communities at eh other side of the border. 7. To provide young people with the opportunity to learn from other young people from different perspectives around the issues that impact on their lives including' health and well-being, living in divided society, unemployment, poverty, drugs and alcohol, culture and identity, BREXIT. The programme will involve a 6 months preparatory programme for all young people within their respective youth projects which will combine 1 to 1 mentoring support and informal education through groups work to prepare young people for the exchange. This will involve 3 distinct phases; Include US; Training For Life; Living int he Shadow of the Hills 20 years after Urban 1: the exchange itself will explore what life was like and is like for young people aged 14 to 17 growing up in Belfast and will compare and contrast the social and political uncertainty of the Northern Ireland Conflict with Post BREXIT Ireland and EU. The exchange will involve a 5 day intensive residential programme in Northern Ireland which will use, group work, tours, discussions, sport, activities, walks and talks as a mechanism to empower young people to understand the world around them and the social forces that shape and dictate their life.
