Objectives

This project brings together 16 young people from the UK and Germany to explore and share their experiences of biodynamic ecology. Eight of the young people have special needs and the other eight are on biodynamic apprenticeships. There are two exchanges planned, the UK group will travel to Germany in June and then host the German group on a reciprocal exchange in October. Both organisations have a strong commitment to the land as an educational, therapeutic and vocational resource. The purpose of the farm is to support healthy human development, it should feed the whole body, not just the physical one with young people benefiting from the connection to nature, the structure of the farm and the benefits of caring for animals. The exchange will be an opportunity to learn how each organisation works with the land and integrates it with social enterprise and therapeutic education. Although working from a similar values both have a different approach. Undertaking this youth exchange will be a developmental milestone for the young people with special needs who have poor self-image and lack of aspiration, feel socially isolated, lack confidence and experience in cultural exploration and overseas travel. Taking part will help them develop responsibility towards others, both individuals and the collective group. The apprentices will be able to apply their learning to another environment and compare and contrast. This project will build on the three successful Erasmus + Youth Exchange that took place in 2016 - 2018 between Ruskin Mill Trust and Lebens-und Arbeitsgemeinschaft Lautenbach. It will build on the positive relationship between the organisations and increase the capacity for international youth work and co-operation. It will strengthen ties which could continue even after the UK has withdrawn from the EU.
