In our application for Room for Inclusion we identified three overarching objectives: 1) To boost youth worker skills and knowledge to equip them with new competences to modernise and internationalise their youth work using Erasmus+/ European Solidarity Corps as a tool 2) To share transferrable practices aimed at reaching out to young people with fewer opportunities in order to engage them in international mobility 3) To develop four inclusive international youth exchanges around sport, dance and creative arts in order to allow youth workers to develop further competence using the skills and knowledge gained in phase 1 of the activity and, to engage 94 participants including 55 with fewer opportunities in international mobility. Objective 1 & 2: EP CIC staff had met various inclusion organisations (through their international work and training their staff have delivered), who were motivated to use the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes, but had the problem of either not having knowledge within the organisation, not having an understanding of how the programmes supports inclusion or not having similar partners they can begin co-operation with. Through Room for Inclusion we hoped to impart knowledge of both Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps from the outset of the programme as well as increasing participants knowledge and confidence in using the different actions. This objective met the intention of Erasmus+ to support the professional development of youth workers and building capacity within youth work organisations. In addition to supporting participants in understanding the programmes we also have feedback from organisations who were due to attend this event that, there are not enough opportunities to meet with similar organisations, especially those working in inclusion, and we dedicated a great deal of time in the UK seminar to partner finding, partnership building and project planning. We selected organisations where we could anticipate future synergy, all organisations selected worked with inclusion groups and understand the greater obstacles of mobilising these young people. There was a strong emphasis on sport and arts within the selected organisations and Room for Inclusion build on these participant interests. Room for Inclusion, brought these partners into the same room, to learn from each other and UK partners to plan future collaboration together. Prior to the seminar after we received approval we produced a questionnaire for participants and participating organisations in order to hone the seminar (in particular the study visit day) to the needs of each partner. Strong UK partners in our local community were introduced to international participants in order to share good practice, and plan for the study visit day where we split participants into three groups in order to allow smaller groups for better immersion and also to offer targeted visits, in the main fields of sport, arts, disability and general social inclusion. The final programme of visits was arranged after we received feedback from partner organisations about their main needs for these visits. The needs identified by partners were: 1) A need to raise staff knowledge around international opportunities available through Erasmus+ and The European Solidarity Corps 2) A need to raise youth worker skills in the application process of the above programmes 3) A need to increase staff competence in developing and delivering international programmes 4) A need to develop partnerships to create synergy between international organisations 5) A need to offer cross sectoral activities in order to open up wider opportunities to staff and youth workers Objective 3: Relates to the Erasmus+ priority of reaching out to marginalised young people and creating opportunities for non-formal learning. We identified a need within the partners that there are inadequate opportunities available for young people from excluded backgrounds. The project brought together organisations supporting young people excluded from school, Roma youth, young people with physical & mental disabilities and young people from minority ethnic groups. All of these organisations had discussed with their youngsters the opportunity of a youth exchange and 8 organisations had identified young people who would like to take part. These organisations identified additional needs which this project will address: 1) A need to find/create opportunities for international Non-Formal Learning for young people (including those with fewer opportunities) 2) A need to offer programmes creating opportunities to raise cultural awareness 3) A need to develop social competence in hard to reach young people 4) A need to equip young people with fewer opportunities with skills needed for future jobsearch and participation in society 5) A need to raise confidence with the identified target group
