The goal of MANUK and our partners with 'Together We Rise' was to contribute to the socio-economic changes in our communities. It is a fact that the increased diversity of Europe has generates anumber of changes in our societies and communities, and everyone needs to adjust to the changes: Europeans, as well as migrants. All four partners in this project wanted to see a more cohesive and inclusive society in each of the four countries, and the need for this was further highlighted during Covid 19 pandemic and the way it disproportionately affect different communities. During our Advance planning meeting which was the only part of the Mobility we were able to implement and working on our proposal for the project, we developed a number of educational projects/workshops that aimed to open up young people’s minds and souls to diversity and different cultures. Through this project we wanted to foster young people’s sense of belonging to the multicultural communities of London, Ankara, Palermo and Arges, while empowering them to play an active role in tackling issues such as exclusion of migrants, lack of information about other cultures, radicalisation, disproportionate access to socio, economic and political opportunities. Unfortunately, the actual mobility could not be achieved within the allowed duration. Against this background our objective were; 1. to organise a 10 days youth exchange in autumn 2019, allowing 32 young people from UK, Italy, Turkey and Romania and 8 youth workers to come together and discuss the reality of migrants situation in their own communities, 2. to develop the civic spirit and the entrepreneurial skills of 36 young people through developing their sense of initiative, project management, self confidence, working in a multicultural team skills, to allow them to come with practical ideas for bringing migrants and local communities together, regardless of their race, religion, nationality, age, gender or sexual orientation . 3. to enable the young people to develop their creative and technical skills, by developing one video production and one blog that will promote a positive narrative of migrants, bringing a change in people's understanding and perception of Muslims and people of other faiths and nationalities.
