Now more than ever, the media has a central role in the creation of intolerance, prejudice and exclusion. There are many groups or minorities that receive aggressive communication and "hate campaigns" based on intolerance. LGBT culture, migrants, refugees, ethnic, religious or social groups - violent episodes are multiplying, and society seems powerless against it, especially in ‘competition’ with the vast media empires that exist. With the current refugee crisis, many European countries are developing radical points of view and refusing diversity. Drawing inspiration from the COE campaign "No Hate Speech" we aim to equip our participants not only with skills to deconstruct and challenge hate speech, but also to create positive campaigns. Europe has always been diverse, and we want to promote diversity as a source of inspiration, not as a problem. Global education gives both the context of our changing world, and also actively invites to be part of the solution of the global problems. In this "Storytelling for Global Change" project we combine 3 main elements: - positive STORYTELLING with focus on skills to create positive media image of marginalised and diversity groups - GLOBAL EDUCATION with focus on understanding current refugee crisis, it's background, environmental and political reasons - MEDIA literacy, deconstructing toxic narrative, anti-hate speech WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES? - to inform and reflect on current trends in MEDIA (including fake news) and how to be critical users and creators of content - contrasting the spreading of violence, extremism and hate speech; - to explore the use of STORYTELLING in youth work, education and for creation of positive media image of diversity groups - to introduce current concepts of GLOBAL EDUCATION, learn more about poverty, inequality and climate change, to challenge some of the complex development issues that face local and global communities - to establish PARTNERSHIPS between organisations working with diversity, storytelling and global education and exchange good practices This project links to the Erasmus+ objectives: - promoting diversity, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, common values of freedom, tolerance and respect of human rights - projects enhancing media literacy, critical thinking and sense of initiative of young people.
