Objectives

As a school with technical and vocational education, we have a great diversity of students. A large proportion of young people have a migration background or come from less well-off families. We often notice that these students receive little incentive from home to work for school. Such a situation means that these students without a diploma leave school prematurely and therefore have limited opportunities on the labor market. With internships abroad, we want to stop school drop-out, but also stimulate and motivate students to complete their school career and show that their chances on the labor market will increase significantly. In addition, we want to introduce participants to other people, cultures, customs, visions, etc. Self-reliance, self-respect, respect for the other as a person, but also for their opinion. These are all aspects that we want to increase with this project. Of course, the internship itself plays a prominent role. The participant learns to accept and carry out assignments from foreigners, often in a foreign language. During the internship, the involved intern can demonstrate his own knowledge and skills to strangers and learn new things. Start up a pilot project for Caregivers in Finland.

Background

Our school has a long tradition of participating in a European project. Every year we experience the added value for our students to gain a foreign experience. Young students are immersed in a short period of time in a bath of foreign cultures, work situations, languages, customs and religions. As a searching person, they often find the basis for maturity and a degree of independence on an internship abroad. In our school there are several students who come from a socially poor environment. Often their family is not financially wealthy and a trip abroad is not possible. This free project will then become their first foreign experience. Because they cross the border in a group, a kind of togetherness grows. The pupils who return to our school afterwards are often more tolerant.
